For thousands of years, every fall, the Chinook Salmon return to the Stanislaus River to spawn. Chinook Salmon are considered one of the most important keystone species on the West Coast. To celebrate this incredible ecological tradition, we will paddle a 4 mile scenic stretch of the Stanislaus River.

What to Expect

Our beginner level Paddle with the Salmon trips will guide paddlers along a 4 mile stretch of the Lower Stanislaus River starting in Knight’s Ferry, California in search for spawning Chinook salmon. Choose your river trip; we’ll offer guided beginner-level journeys along the Stanislaus on November 9 from 8:00am - 2:00pm or November 10 from 9:00am - 3:00pm.

Paddle with the Salmon is led by expert river guides and supported by TRT staff who will share a short educational program about the lives of salmon and the surrounding ecosystem.

This is not whitewater section of the river, but there are rocks, riffles, and one class 1.5 rapid to navigate around. Experience with moving water and comfort steering around obstacles is encouraged for this beginner level route.

Each paddler will be outfitted with a sit-on-top kayak, paddle, and life jacket.
Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and Guide safety recommendations is a must!
