Reimagining Parks on Vibin’ with West Modesto
Earlier this fall, Blanca Ruiz (Central Valley Program Manager) and Natali Gutierrez (TRT Program Assistant) joined up with the team from Vibin’ with West Modesto to talk about community-level change that comes with accessible parks designed around neighborhood needs. In this episode, Natali and Blanca share how they work to provide inviting, equitable parks and joyful recreation opportunities in Modesto’s riverside communities.
Natali shared that, “research has shown, time and time again, that exposure to the outdoors, being outside on your feet, is really, really good for you long term, and so many families don’t have these spaces to be outside. And when they do, it’s a park that’s run down, that has graffiti, the amenities don’t work, or they just don’t feel safe in general. So, the goal is to help educate these families and communities and … to show them that they can do something about it no matter how big or small their advocacy is. A little goes a long way.”
The interview is full of uplifting action! Tune in to hear all about youth-led, community-powered parks and recreation happenings in the Central Valley.
