Get outdoors and help clean up our watershed!
The Tuolumne River Trust is hosting a river cleanup on Saturday, September 17th along the North Fork Tuolumne River as part of the Great Sierra River Cleanup.
Each year, organizations up and down the Sierra Nevada work in conjunction with the California Coastal Cleanup Day to organize this Sierra-wide volunteer day. The Sierra produces a significant portion of California’s water supply and supplies the state with 50% of its hydroelectric energy. Our beloved Tuolumne is a large part of this system, supplying water to over 200,000 acres in the Central Valley and drinking water to over 2.7 million people in the Bay Area. Unfortunately, our waterways are impacted by waste and other pollutants making their way downstream, so we’re asking for your help in cleaning up our waterways!
Because of the logistics involved in visiting several sites along the river, we are limiting the number of volunteers for our cleanup to 15, so if you are interested, please RSVP at the link below!
We will reach out soon to confirm your attendance!

Key Event Info:
Where:
We will meet in the parking lot of Tuolumne Market in Tuolumne City. There, we will circle up, sign volunteer waivers (anyone under 18 must have parent/guardian sign theirs), and discuss the plan for the day as well as any safety concerns. From there, we will caravan to the Riverside Day Use Area, where we will split into groups. We will then make our way toward the River Ranch Campground, stopping at cleanup sites along the way. While Tuolumne Market and the Day Use Area have plenty of parking, we will be stopping at several sites along 1N04 where parking will be limited, so carpooling is encouraged!
Directions:
If you type Tuolumne Market into Google Maps, it will lead you to the correct meetup spot.
Heading East on Highway 108:
Take the Mono Way exit, and turn right onto Mono Way. After approximately half a mile, turn right onto Tuolumne Road, and follow it for about 6.5 miles. Tuolumne Market will be on your left-hand side just past the intersection of Tuolumne Road and Tuolumne Road N.
Heading West on Highway 108:
There are several ways to get to Tuolumne Market, depending on where you are leaving from.
If you are above Twain Harte, turn left onto Tuolumne Road N/E17 from Highway 108. Follow it for 6.5 miles until you reach Tuolumne Road, and turn left. The parking lot of Tuolumne Market will be on your left.
If you are below Twain Harte, turn left onto Soulsbyville Road from Highway 108, and follow it for 3 miles until you reach Tuolumne Road, and then turn left. Tuolumne Market will be on your left-hand side about 2 miles down, just past the intersection of Tuolumne Road and Tuolumne Road N.
When:
Saturday, September 17th from 8:30am-1:30pm
If we have reached capacity for our cleanup or if you find yourself elsewhere in the state on this particular day, not to worry! Because this event is happening up and down the Sierras, there are several other sites you can join. The Sierra Nevada Alliance is coordinating the Great Sierra River Cleanup this year. You can find out more about the event in general and how to register at other sites on their website.
